The Beloyarsk NPP specialists shared their experience with WANO international experts

A visiting support mission, during which the experts of the international organization mutually exchanged with the Ural nuclear scientists useful practices for improving production activities, was performed at the Beloyarsk NPP by the Moscow Center of WANO.

A team of experts from the World Association of Nuclear Power Plant Operators was invited by the Beloyarsk NPP to study the best world practices in the use of operating experience and safety culture.

Oleg Semenenko, adviser of the WANO Moscow Center, noted: “The support mission team included specialists from three nuclear power plants - they presented the experience of their nuclear power plants, shared ways to solve problematic issues, and also got acquainted with the useful practices of the Beloyarsk NPP, which they can implement at home.  Therefore, both parties have been enriched with important competencies that will make it possible to ensure the further safe operation of nuclear power plants at a high level.”

For example, any employee or even a visitor to a nuclear power plant has the right to express on a special form their doubts about the safety of one or another event they have seen - and their appeal will be studied in depth by specialists from the departments that control safety and the use of operating experience, and, if necessary, corrective measures will be taken.

The Beloyarsk NPP invites WANO support missions in areas where areas for possible improvement were identified based on the results of last year's peer review.  Safety is the top priority for Russian nuclear scientists, and the process of improving operation is continuous.  This makes it possible to reliably provide safe and clean nuclear power to the needs of residents, the social sphere and industry of the Ural region.
