Representatives of the Republic of Armenia visited the Kursk NPP-2 site

The construction site of the Kursk NPP-2 was visited by representatives of the state authorities of the Republic of Armenia. The delegation included representatives of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia and the heads of the Armenian NPP. The delegation from the Armenian side was headed by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures Gnel Sanosyan. The visit took place with the assistance of Rusatom Energy Projects JSC.

The purpose of the technical tour to the Kursk NPP-2 is to get acquainted with the advanced Russian technologies for the construction of nuclear power plants and the technical solution of PWR-TOI. The delegation members examined the construction site of Kursk NPP-2: they visited the reactor building, the turbine department, looked at the evaporative cooling towers, and visited the shop for the production of armored metal blocks and the observation deck of Kursk NPP-2.

The delegation was met by the director of the Kursk NPP Alexander Uvakin. Welcoming the members of the Armenian delegation, he noted: “The construction of PWR-TOI power units at the Kursk NPP-2 is of strategic importance for the nuclear industry. The capacity of each new power unit exceeds the capacity of any newly commissioned power unit in Russia and amounts to 1255 MW. The commissioning of the Kursk NPP-2 will ensure the energy security of the Central Federal District, which is over 39 million people.”

The head of the Armenian delegation, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia, Gnel Sanosyan, thanked the representatives of Rosatom State Corporation for the opportunity to visit the site of the Kursk NPP-2 under construction: “For Armenia that sees nuclear energy as one of the priority areas for the development of the energy industry, it is very important to get acquainted with modern technologies and solutions, and we are grateful that Rosatom, the world leader in the nuclear industry, conducted a sightseeing tour for us, during which we met with constructive and conceptual solutions for such a breakthrough project as PWR-TOI.”

The information provided during the technical tour is especially interesting, timely and useful to the Armenian side, since the State Strategic Program for the Development of the Energy Sector of Armenia until 2040 provides for the construction of a new nuclear power facility, replacing the current power unit of the Armenian NPP.

For reference:

The construction of power unit 1 and 2 of the Kursk NPP-2 is performed as part of the federal project "Design and construction of reference power units of nuclear power plants" of the Integrated Program "Development of equipment, technologies and scientific research in the sphere of the use of atomic energy in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024.

PWR-TOI is a standard optimized informatized generation 3+ pressurized water power reactor. Each power unit is designed for a 60-year service life (with the possibility of extending the service life up to 100 years).
