WANO-MC support mission will help the Beloyarsk NPP to use the best world practices

High-quality and safe equipment maintenance and repair became the topic of the next WANO support mission, which is taking place this week at the Beloyarsk NPP and will end on August 19.

“Every year we invite experts from the WANO Moscow Center to conduct support missions to evaluate our work with a fresh eye and learn from the best practices of other nuclear power plants,” said Mikhail Roslyakov, deputy chief engineer for the Beloyarsk NPP overhaul.

“The specifics of this support mission are that you provide experts the opportunity to observe a large number of works in the sphere of maintenance and repair. Besides, in addition to the traditional topics of increasing quality and safety, the mission program included a discussion of ways to motivate staff in these areas. During the mission, we will exchange experience and opinions, consider the adaptation of international experience in relation to the Beloyarsk NPP, develop and offer our recommendations on improvements,” said Evgeny Kovalev, head of the WANO MC Expert Team.

The WANO-MC support mission is timed to coincide with the time when both operating power units of the Beloyarsk NPP are undergoing scheduled maintenance campaigns. At the moment, at the power unit No. 3, the main works are the replacement of the removable part of one of the main circulation pumps, the replacement of the evaporation modules of the steam generators, and repairs of the turbine and generator. At power unit No. 4, the main repair measures have already been completed, with the help of a metrological fuel assembly, the clad integrity control system is being calibrated.

Maintenance and repair of equipment is one of the most important components of the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants, thus, the Beloyarsk NPP pays the most serious attention to them and invites international experts to exchange experience.
