The Novovoronezh NPP: Russian nuclear scientists shared their experience in the sphere of safety regulation with specialists from the regulatory authority from Bangladesh

Representatives of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) visited the Novovoronezh NPP and the city of Novovoronezh.

BAERA inspectors took part in a training course conducted for them by experts from the Don Interregional Territorial Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (DMTU).

Russian experts shared their experience with foreign colleagues in the implementation of control and supervision activities at various stages of the NPP life cycle, explaining the critical role of the regulatory body in all processes.

“The government sent us to improve the work of our supervisory structure, and we are very happy to have such an experience of cooperation with the Russian side. A strong regulatory body is an important element of NPP safety. The amount of work that we have to do is impossible without the help of our Russian colleagues. We can contrast and compare the processes that are taking place here now with those processes that we will have,” explained Dipan Shikdar, a representative of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Safety Regulatory Authority.

The delegation of Bangladesh visited the main control room and the turbine hall of power unit No. 6 of the Novovoronezh NPP with the 3+ generation PWR-1200 reactor. These two power units are currently being built by Rosatom State Corporation in Bangladesh at the Rooppur NPP.

“We are newcomers to the use of nuclear energy. It was very interesting to visit the power units of the Novovoronezh NPP. The work is well done here, everyone who cooperated with us during the visit showed their best side,” Dipan Shikdar said.

For reference:

The Rooppur NPP with two PWR-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 2400 MW is being built according to the Russian project 160 km from the capital of Bangladesh, the city of Dhaka, in accordance with the general contract dated December 25, 2015. A russian project with PWR-1200 reactors, successfully implemented at two power units of the Novovoronezh NPP, was selected for the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh. This is a 3+ generation project that fully meets international safety requirements.
