At the site of Kursk NPP-2, the foundation is ready to accommodate the most powerful turbo generator in Russia

At the construction site of the Kursk NPP-2, another key event of the year was completed – the foundation for the installation of a turbo generator was commissioned in the turbine building of the first power unit.

Foundation is a part of the building structure and the turbine at the same time, because it will combine shafting along with a turbine and a turbine generator in a single machine - the turbo generator. The Kursk NPP-2 project provides the most powerful in the Russian domestic low-speed turbines – 1255 MW.

"The readiness of the foundation will allow placing works on installation of the turbine installation in the engine room of the first unit in a wider way. Turbo generator stator is installed in the design position. In July, the expected delivery of the turbine rotors, and in early autumn, we plan to put the turbine and generator line shaft", - commented Acting Andrey of the Kursk NPP Andrey Osharin on future plans. Base plate with vibration isolation system constructed on the basis of the coil springs, holds twenty-concrete columns about 20 meters high. All this construction is comparable in height to a standard six-storey house, it forms a single framework, which will carry the entire load of the turbine unit total mass of 3500 tons.

"Base plate of the turbo generator at the Kursk NPP-2 has its own innovative design features – it is cut off from the foundation of the machine room 89 via vibration isolators. This allows, first, to minimize the vibrations caused on the turbine, second, to cut off and not transmit vibrations to the foundation of the turbine building. This design will extend the life of the turbine structural elements of the building as a whole ", - said the chief engineer of the Kursk NPP-2 Alex Volnov.

All work on the construction site of the Kursk NPP-2 is carried out in accordance with the schedule. Today three state tasks out of seven and three key events of the ten planned for 2022 have been performed.

Construction of unit 1 and 2 of the Kursk NPP-2 is performed as part of the federal project "Design and construction of nuclear power units reference" comprehensive program "The development of technology in the sphere of nuclear energy technology and research in the Russian Federation for the period until 2024.
