The stator of the most powerful turbine generator in Russia was mounted at the site of the Kursk NPP-2 under construction

A turbine generator stator was mounted in the turbine building of the first power unit of the Kursk NPP-2 under construction. It is the heaviest piece of equipment at the nuclear power plant. Its weight is 440 tons, and length is 9 meters.

The installed heavyweight is the most important part of the generator. In it the turbine mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy.

“The WWER-TOI project provides for the most powerful generator in Russia – 1255 kW. It will generate 25% more power than two electric machines produce at the operating Kursk NPP today. Earlier, a generator rotor was delivered to the construction site. The mass of the assembly (stator and rotor) will be 665 tons,” explained Andrey Osharin, first deputy director for the construction of new units.

The stator arrived in Kurchatov on a unique railway transporter designed to transport heavy and oversized cargo. The advanced design of the platform has no base: the load, under the influence of its weight, is clamped between the sliding parts of the platform, which ensures its reliable fastening.

The equipment was reloaded from the railway transporter onto a 1000-ton barge - self-propelled vehicles controlled by a remote control. The heavyweight was delivered on it to the installation site.

“Preparation for the installation of the stator began a year ago. Considering the mass of equipment, a special approach was required to perform transport and loading and unloading operations. The stator is installed in its regular place in the turbine building of the first power unit. This operation was conducted using a specialized gantry lifting and moving system and lasted about 12 hours,” commented Oleg Shperle, vice president and director of the Kursk NPP construction project.

The construction of power units 1 and 2 of the Kursk NPP-2 is performed as part of the federal project "Design and construction of reference power units of nuclear power plants" of the Integrated Program "Development of equipment, technologies and scientific research in the sphere of the use of atomic energy in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024.
