Rosenergoatom presented a new format of visits to nuclear power plants at the EXPO-2020 World Exhibition

Rosenergoatom (part of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom State Corporation) held a session of virtual technical tours of Russian nuclear power plants at Rosatom’s thematic week “High Technologies for a Sustainable Future”, which took place from 17 to 24 January, 2022 in Dubai (UAE ).

Exhibitors had a unique opportunity to visit the production sites of the Beloyarsk NPP, Novovoronezh NPP and a floating nuclear heat and power plant (FNHPP), accompanied by a representative of the NPP.

More than 150 participants of the session visited not only traditional sightseeing points, but also controlled access areas closed during regular in-person visits with the help of 360-degree video tours.  So, for example, the exhibition guests could look inside the reactor halls of a serial power unit with a PWR-1200 reactor and a unique industrial fast neutron reactor BN-800.  They had a chance to visit the northernmost nuclear power plant in the world in the city of Pevek in Chukotka and see the main production facilities of the only operating floating nuclear power plant in the world.

During the interactive tour, the NPP speakers told the guests about how electricity is generated, about modern security systems at the nuclear power plant, and about the sustainable development of their regions and cities where nuclear power plants are located.

More than 3,000 users from all over the world watched videos of broadcasts of the session of virtual tours of Russian nuclear power plants on social networks.

“Today we have the opportunity to demonstrate the latest Russian achievements in nuclear energy in the international arena.  The NPP projects of Russian design have competitive technical and economic characteristics, proven safety, compliance with all modern world standards, including IAEA recommendations.  In the ongoing pandemic the online format for arranging technical tours of Russian nuclear power plants has become practically the only possible and very productive format for international communication with key market participants,” said Nikita Konstantinov, deputy general director - business development director of Rosenergoatom.

For reference:
Virtual tours around Russian NPPs are the first industry-wide large-scale interactive project covering five nuclear power plants at the same time: Beloyarsk, Leningrad, Kursk, Novovoronezhsk NPP and FNHPP.  In 2021, more than 500 people from 60 countries, including those who are already building nuclear power plants of Russian design (Turkey, Belarus, Bangladesh, Hungary, Egypt, etc.), and those who are only considering the possibility of developing nuclear energy (Argentina, Vietnam  , Romania, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, etc.) virtually visited Russian nuclear power plants.
