Belarusian students undertook an internship at the Novovoronezh NPP

Eight students of the Belarusian National Technical University, Faculty of Energy, completed their internship at the Novovoronezh NPP.

Involving the management of the Rosenergoatom central administrative office, all the necessary safety measures were provided under the conditions of the coronavirus infection, which made it possible to carry out the internship in full-time mode.

During two weeks, nuclear scientists from Novovoronezh familiarized the 4th year students with the peculiarities of operation of power units with pressurized water reactors (PWR).

The interns visited the main production workshops of power units No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 of NV NPP – reactor, turbine, chemical, electrical workshop, thermal instrumentation and control shop, centralized repair workshop, metal defect identification and technical control department.

They paid special attention to the study of the equipment and systems of the innovative power unit No. 6 of NV NPP with PWR-1200 generation "3+". Now in Belarus, they build a nuclear power plant with similar power units of Russian design.

“Textbooks describe everything in theory, provide a mathematical model, in practice, students can consolidate their knowledge, see everything with their eyes, feel everything with their hands, communicate with the workers of the Novovoronezh NPP. The students commented positively on the high degree of personnel responsibility, the importance of the work of atomic scientists and adherence to the main principle – safety,” said Igor Nekalo, a lecturer at the Belarusian National Technical University, who supervises a group of interns.

It should be noted that at the moment, within the framework of the intergovernmental Agreement between Russia and Belarus on cooperation in the construction of a nuclear power plant, more than 60 students of the Belarusian National Technical University have already completed their on-the-job training and internship at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant.

For reference:

The Belarusian NPP is the largest joint Russian-Belarusian project in the sphere of nuclear energy. The construction of a nuclear power plant with two PWR-1200 reactors is carried out in accordance with the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation in the construction of nuclear power plants on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. The general contractor for the construction is ASE EC JSC (engineering division of Rosatom State Corporation). The new generation 3+ project developed in Russia fully complies with all modern requirements, international standards and IAEA recommendations, provides for the construction of a two-unit NPP with a total capacity of up to 2,400 MW, with a PWR-1200 reactor.
