Construction of the turbine building completed at the Kursk NPP

The turbine room of nuclear power unit No. 1 has acquired distinct features. The builders of Kursk NPP-2 set the last section of the roof in design position, which signified the completion of the building framework. The construction reaches the height of 49 meters.

This key event attracted the governor of the Kursk region Roman Starovoitov, who paid a visit to the Kursk NPP-2 construction site.

“We are building the most up-to-date, powerful, and safe reactor. This project is realized in the Kursk region by Rosenergoatom, JSC. The administration of the region should create the best possible conditions to realize this project. This means both building the substation and developing the town of Kurchatov in the Kursk region. We have inspected the construction site, and the works proceed according to the schedule, with no significant issues,” Head of the Administration of the Kursk Region said.

The construction works were started in 2019. The 29 columns of the turbine building required more than 2000 tons of metal. The roof weighs 1084 tons. There are three runways for the travelling cranes in the building, their weight is 15, 30, and 290 tons, respectively.

“This event allows to close the heat circuit of the turbine building, completing its shell and core, and start the installation of the technical equipment,” noted the Director of the Kursk NPP Vyacheslav Fedyukin. “The construction works are performed to the schedule. Seven key assignments of this year out of fifteen have been completed, and this includes three federal assignments.”
