Rosenergoatom: Russian NPPs increased electricity generation by almost 15% in March 2021

Electricity generation by nuclear power plants in Russia (branches of Rosenergoatom JSC, part of the Electric Power Division of Rosatom) amounted to 20.294 billion kWh in March 2021, which is almost 14.9% more than in March last year (17.664 billion kWh).

Generation in the first quarter also increased, by 7.77% compared to the same period last year, and amounted to 57.223 billion kWh (against 53.104 in 2020).

The fulfillment of the FAS Russia plan amounted to 102.21% since the beginning of the year. According to experts, the extra 2.21% made it possible to restrain the growth of free market prices for electricity for consumers by about 1.5%.

Let’s recall that Russian nuclear power plants completed 2020 with an absolute record in the entire history of the existence of the Russian nuclear power industry, generating 215.746 billion kWh of electricity. Thanks to the operation of the nuclear power plant, greenhouse gas emissions were prevented in the amount of 108.3 million tons over the past year.

38 power units with a total installed capacity of over 30.5 GW are in operation today. They are installed at 11 operating nuclear power plants in Russia, including the floating nuclear thermal power plant (FNPP).

The share of Russian nuclear power plants in the country's energy balance has grown and is now over 20%. Thus, every fifth light bulb in the Russian Federation burns from the energy generated by nuclear power plants.
