Kursk NPP-2: Four housings for the main circulation pumps were installed in the building of the reactor of power unit No. 1

All four spherical housings of the main circulation pumps (MCP) are installed in the design position in the reactor building of the first power unit of Kursk NPP-2. The units are mounted at an elevation of 14.5 meters.

The MCP belongs to the main technological equipment of the reactor plant and provides circulation of the coolant heated to a temperature of 300 ° C.

"During the operation of the nuclear power plant, all four main circulation pumps will be in operation. The MCP for the VVER-TOI project is distinguished by an optimized design. Water instead of oil will be used to cool and lubricate the pump and motor bearings. This will increase the fire safety of the NPP, simplify the layout and start-up procedure of the MCP," Chief Engineer of Kursk NPP-2 Alexey Volnov explained.

The mass of one MCP unit is more than 53 tons. The unit is capable of pumping about 22 thousand cubic meters of water within an hour. Ten Olympic pools can be filled during this time.

All MCP housings have withstood the endurance test. In the process of hydrotesting, which was carried out at the manufacturing plant, the body of each main circulation pumping unit was filled with specially purified water, heated to the temperature of hydrotesting and held under a pressure of 24.5 MPa for 10 minutes.
