Leningrad NPP: Signing of the key document confirming that NPU No. 6 has been built and is operation read

On March 10, Sergey Perevoshchikov, Head of the North European Interregional Territorial Administration for Supervision of Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Rostekhnadzor, handed over to Director of the Leningrad NPP Vladimir Pereguda the Conclusion on the compliance of the VVER-1200 power unit No. 6 with the requirements of technical regulations and design documentation.

The day prior, the final 15-day comprehensive testing of the new power unit was completed, during which the unit operated without issues at the nominal power level.

“Our new power unit was built in full accordance with the project and is ready for safe and stable operation throughout its entire service life. Now we are starting to draw up all the necessary documentation in order to put the power unit into commercial operation by the end of March,” - said Vladimir Pereguda, Director of the Leningrad NPP.

By the time of commissioning, VVER-1200 power unit No. 6 of the Leningrad NPP will generate more than 2 billion kwh of electricity. According to preliminary estimates the economic effect in the form of additional taxes in the consolidated budget of the Leningrad Region will after the introduction of the new power unit amount to more than 3 billion rubles on an annual basis.

At this moment, NPUs No. 3 and 5 are in operation. Units No. 1, 2 were shut down for decommissioning, No. 4 is in scheduled repair, and No. 6 is being put into commercial operation.
