On February 24, 2020 a planned inspection was initiated at the Kalinin NPP by the Volzhsk interregional territorial Control Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Supervision (VMTU) of Rostekhnadzor (Federal Service for Environmental, Technological, and Nuclear Supervision).

The commission includes the chief state inspector of the department for supervision of nuclear and radiation safety of nuclear installations Yevgeny Mironov, senior state inspector Anatoly Timshin and the head of the department for inspections of nuclear and radiation safety Marina Kvardakova.

As part of continuous state supervision at the Kalinin NPP, experts will check for compliance with federal norms and rules during the operation of radiation sources and ensure safety during work, assess the organization of the radiation monitoring system and the system for the selection, training and admission of personnel to carry out radiation work.

The commission will also check the fulfillment of federal requirements in the field of use of atomic energy as far as operational documentation is concerned.

“Independent inspections carried out by the supervisory authority are very important from the point of view of an objective assessment of the NPP's performance in production,” noted Aleksandr Dorofeev, Chief Engineer of the KNPP. "They allow to improve the operation of the nuclear power plant, ensuring a high level of safety and reliability."
