JSC Rosenergoatom (part of Rosatom Energy Division) presented a project to create infrastructure sites that would be connected to energy objects of the atomic branch and large objects of wholesale electricity market (WEM). The event took place at the V International forum for blockchain, mining and cryptocurrencies “Blockchain Life - 2020” in Moscow.

This project was named the best “Project 2019” in the national award “Data Centres of the Russian Federation”. The first site of the project, the Kalinin site, has a capacity of 32 MVA and is designed for the customers to hold IT hardware and computing equipment within its own container data centers or in container constructions that were created with the safety and security requirements by Rosenergoatom in mind (for example, a gas based fire extinguishing system is in use that is safe for the equipment.)

The first customers whose activity is based on high performance computing have already installed their hardware at the new site. A wide range of services is available to the companies taking interest in installing and/or utilizing container data centers. The dedicated territory makes up 2 Ha and allows placing up to 30 DCs with a container form factor. Their installed unit capacity can reach 1 MW.

The customers also have access to a professional maintenance service that facilitates working capacity of the information systems at the Kalinin NPP and at the Kalinin DC as well as the infrastructure site of the Kalinin DC. The available services include the “Clever hands” service, placement of equipment in a container DC on a turn-key basis, access to reliable telecommunication channels and maintenance of computing resources 24/7 all year round.

Additionally, corporate users can choose the most suitable equipment operation mode (with the uptime from 65% to 100%) and record the conditions of their cooperation with the infrastructure site within the framework of a transparent service contract providing the service of placing their computing equipment at an infrastructure site of Rosenergoatom.

The infrastructure site has one competitive advantage: it allows to take into consideration specific requests and desires of its users. Each customer can rely on an individual approach, including the selection of the necessary services and their configuration. “The possibilities in using the site are endless. It’s not necessarily mining equipment. The infrastructure can be used to operate a regular data center with a modular or container form-factor as well as to place rendering equipment (in order to process video streams). Providing services based on blockchain technology to our customers is one of the most essential business directions and ways of utilization of the existing Rosenergoatom infrastructure. It will allow us to become one of the leading players on the DC services market”, he noted.
