Construction workers at Kursk NPP-2 carried out the 11th milestone event of the year. Concreting of ring tunnel of containment pre-tensioning system (CPTS) has been finished at the reactor building number 2.

Containment pre-tensioning system ensures a reliable sealing during any accidents where unsealing of the primary flow circuit takes place. It also protects the nuclear power unit and the reactor against external influence.

“Concreting of the ring tunnel of containment pre-tensioning system is an important item on the plant building schedule. After these works are finished, the construction workers will start concreting the first layer of the inner containment, installing the cladding of the confinement, building the external containment,” – Head of Office of Capital Construction at Kursk NPP-2 Aleksey Buldygin explained.

Concreting of the ceiling was performed in three steps, for the number of sub-areas. Around 130 experts from OOO “Trest RosSEM” participated in the operations 24 hours a day. The construction workers placed 3252 cubic meters of concrete mix.

Two key events remain to be carried out till the end of the year, according to the schedule. There are no risks of failure.
