Novovoronezh NPP (Rosenergoatom JSC branch) was visited by the Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Rwanda Claver Gatete.

The Minister visited the unit’s control room and turbine’s island of the power unit No 6 – the world’s first power unit of generation 3+ that was put into industrial operation on 27 February, 2018. Also, the guest visited the viewing point of the Phase 4.

“Our country needs to develop the nuclear power industry. This is required for the economical development of many different areas, and I wanted to visit this Plant by myself in order to make sure that the advanced and safe technologies are used here”, Claver Gatete noted.

The visit was carried out after signing the intergovernmental agreement on the cooperation between the government of the Republic of Rwanda and Rosatom State Corporation in the area of nuclear area use for peaceful purposes.

This will allow to proceed to the practical implementation of the certain projects on the cooperation between Russia and Rwanda, such as development of the construction projects of the Centre of the nuclear science and technologies and NPP at the territory of the Republic of Rwanda, assistance in creation and improvement of the nuclear infrastructure of the Republic of Rwanda in accordance with the international recommendations; regulation in the area of the nuclear and radiological safety, supervision over physical security of the nuclear materials, radiation sources, storage facilities of the nuclear and radioactive materials, as well as the accounting and control systems of nuclear materials, radioactive materials and radioactive waste; carrying out the fundamental and applied researches in the area of nuclear power use for peaceful purposes; production of radioactive isotopes and their use in the industry, medicine and agriculture; cooperation in the area of radiation technology appliance, radiation medicine; training and retraining of the specialists for the nuclear industry.
