Rostov NPP: investments aimed at environmental protection in 2017 amounted to more than 654 million rubles.

Fixed assets investments directed by Rostov NPP in 2017 to protect the environment and for rational use of natural resources amounted to more than 654 million rubles.

This was reported by the Head of the Environmental Protection Department of the Power Plant Olga Gorskaya during the report on environmental safety of Rostov NPP over the past year.

“We have been issuing such reports since 2008 as part of the implementation of the environmental policy of Rosatom State Corporation and its main principle of the openness and accessibility of information on our environmental activities”, O. Gorskaya stressed.

Important environmental protection measures in 2017 included:

* increase in technical safety and reliability of hydraulic engineering structures;

* evaluation of the fish protection system effectiveness at the site of the Pump Station of Additional Water with a feed bucket of the Rostov NPP power units No 3 and No 4;

* analysis of the ecosystem of the Rostov NPP reservoir with issuing recommendations on bio melioration;

* obtaining a positive conclusion from the State Environmental Expertise on the basis of the license for the operation of the Rostov NPP power unit No 2 in the 18-month fuel cycle at the reactor facility capacity of 104% of the nominal;

* stocking of the Don river basin (21 million young bream and more than 800 thousand carps are stocked down the Tsimlyansk hydroelectric complex).

Representatives of the Volgodonsk City Duma, representatives of enterprises and organizations, the public, and journalists were familiarized with the materials of the report.

“Annual environmental reports of Rostov NPP allow to establish a productive dialogue between the Plant and the public. Such feedback is very important and benefits all interested parties”, the head receptionist of the Rosatom Public Council in Volgodonsk Vladimir Reshetov noted. 

Rostov NPP is the branch of the Rosenergoatom (a part of the Electric Energy Division – the largest division of Rosatom State Corporation). The enterprise is located at the shore of Tsimlyansk Reservoir 13 km away from the town of Volgodonsk. The NPP operates the reactors of VVER-1000 type with the installed capacity of 1,000 MW. The power unit No 1 was put into industrial operation in 2001, No 2 – in 2010, No 3 – in September, 2015. The power unit No 4 was started up in February, 2018.
