Novovoronezh NPP was visited by public leaders of the province of Pabna (Bangladesh)

Seven representatives of Pabna province’s municipalities of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, where a week ago Rosatom started constructing the first nuclear power plant, have made a familiarization visit at Novovoronezh NPP.

The guests visited innovative 3+ generation power units No 6 and No 7 (units No 1 and 2 of NVNPP-2) with VVER-1200 reactors, which project is used for two power units of Ruppur NPP in Bangladesh.
The delegation have also visited the Training Center where the operational personnel of both Novovoronezh NPP and foreign plants are trained, talked with Dmitriy Statsura, the head of the technical support department for putting new units into operation.

“From Mr. Statsura’s presentation we learned about the monitoring of electric energy generation and reactor parameters, as well as the maintenance of safe production conditions – in terms of personnel, the environment, and the population of nearby areas. The knowledge gained today about the nuclear plant operation will be useful in the future. Knowing about Russia's vast experience in the field of nuclear energy, we are sure that thanks to this visit we will raise the level of our knowledge about the whole system of nuclear power plant operation”, the Head of the Ishvardi sub-district in the province of Pabna, Akter Nasrin said.

Ms. Nasrin noted that the development of nuclear generation is very important for her country, where there is an acute shortage of electricity. “Bangladesh is a small country with a high population density. The demand for electricity is very high and continues to grow. The construction of a nuclear power plant will cover these needs and will stimulate the industry growth”, Akter Nasrin summed up.

It is to be recalled that the first concrete was poured into the base of the reactor building of Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant on 30 November, 2017. A site on the eastern bank of the Ganges River in the province of Pabna, 160 kilometers from the capital of Bangladesh, was chosen to construct it. The intergovernmental Agreement on the construction of Ruppur NPP was signed between Russia and Bangladesh in June 2014. A year later, active visits of Bengali colleagues to Novovoronezh nuclear power plant began.

From 2015 to 2017, more than 100 Bengali guests visited Novovoronezh NPP with familiarization visits or for the purpose of training.

The Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located on the bank of the Don River in 42 km to the south of Voronezh. It is the Russia's first nuclear power plant with VVER reactors (water-to-water power reactors of case type with regular water under pressure). Each of five reactors of the station can be a main one – a prototype of serial power reactors: the power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, the power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, the No. 3, 4 power units with the VVER-440 reactors, the power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor. The first power unit was launched in 1964, the second – in 1969, third – in 1971, fourth – 1972, fifth – 1980. There are three power units (power units No.1, 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990 respectively) in work at the moment.

The power units Nos 1 and 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990, respectively. The power unit No 3 was stopped in 2016 for decommissioning activities. The power unit No 1 of Novovoronezh NPP-2 was commissioned on 27 February, 2017. The power unit No 2 of Novovoronezh NPP-2 is in the middle of construction and installation works; its commissioning is planned for 2018.
