WANO Technical Support Mission Finishes Its Work at Smolensk NPP

On June 29, 2012 the technical support mission of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) finished on June 29, 2012 at Smolensk NPP. It was attended by the experts of Moscow, Atlanta and Paris Centres, representatives of Paks NPP (Hungary), Kozloduy NPP (Bulgaria), All-Russian Research Institute for NPP Operation (VNIIAES) and Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC.

The purpose of the mission – sharing of experiences in the field of the use of NPP performance indicator system.

According to the Statute of WANO, all the nuclear power plants, being a part of it, shall transfer the database information to the Association for calculation of the key performance indicators necessary for assessment of the achieved safety level.  

During the week the experts shared their experiences on the methods of calculations of indicators, correct data input in the program of Atlanta Centre, discussed the key performance indicators and actual issues of cooperation of Smolensk NPP with the Central Office of the Concern, VNIIAES and WANO.

At the final meeting Chief Inspector of Smolensk NPP, Ramil Galiyev, said that in the course of the mission the specialists of the plant defined for themselves new tasks including those of the performance indicator system of IAEA. “Shortly we will set about the development and realization of measures for all the recommendations offered by the experts,” he stressed.

The World Association of Nuclear Operators unites all the organizations operating nuclear power plants of the world. It contributes to sharing of experiences in operation, so that its members could work together to achieve the highest level of safety and reliability in the operation of their nuclear power plants.



Smolensk NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. Annually SNPP provides the country power system at an average of about 20 billion kWh of electrical power, which makes about 13% of energy produced by Rosenergoatom Concern and more than 80% produced by the power enterprises of the Smolensk Region.
