On June 8, 2012 WANO Moscow Centre technical support mission “Formation and Development of Commitment to Safety Culture at the Individual Level” finished its work at Balakovo NPP.

The participated in the mission were representatives of South Ukraine and Smolensk NPP, Central Institute for Continuing Education and Training (Non-State Educational Establishment for Extended Education CICE&T, Obninsk), Research and Practice Centre PROGNOZ-PETERBURG, as well as WANO Moscow Centre. The specialists arrived to Balakovo to share professional experience in formation of commitment of the staff to safety culture.

“We were pleased to see new developments of CICE&T that teach instructors of training centres to hold classes in the form of trainings, rather than lectures. In this case the staff is actively involved in the process and at the stage of studying gets a clear idea about the necessity to introduce safety culture and strictly comply with the rules and regulations in force at the enterprise,” Sergey Berdyugin, Deputy Chief of the Training Centre of Balakovo NPP, shared his impressions from communicating with colleagues.

The experts noted that Balakovo NPP, even having good results in the area under discussion, did not get tired of moving forward and doing this work more profound and complete.

Three recommendations have been entered in the minutes of the mission, where the experts proposed using different types of communications with the staff while implementing and adjusting processes of improving safety culture.
