Vladimir Povarov, the Novovoronezh NPP director, became the winner of the annual “Leader of the Year – 2016” award

On December 6, 2016, the winners of the annual “Leader of the Year – 2016” award were bestowed. The competition was initiated by GUP VO “Studia Gubernia” under the auspices of the Voronezh region government involving the governor Alexey Gordeev. This award is granted to the best representatives of their areas in 2016, along with the regional dwellers who have demonstrated their capacities in major projects.

In 2016, this award covered 15 nominations. The representatives of the governmental bodies, public organizations, and business communities, the clergy, scientists, athletes, and cultural activists took part in the grand ceremony.

Vladimir Povarov, the Novovoronezh NPP director, was announced as a winner in the “Best regional project” nomination. The chairman of the Voronezh Regional Duma, Vladimir Netesov, delivered the diploma and the figure to him. This is the second award in the “Leader of the year” competition granted to the Novovoronezh NPP director, as he received his first one in the “Social responsibility” nomination in December 2013. This award was granted for keeping high economic performance and providing his employees with effective social assistance.

“This big award is a merit of the whole Novovoronezh NPP’s team”, Vladimir Povarov said. “This year, we have achieved a lot, as we have completed the physical and the power launch of the world’s first innovative 3+ generation 6th power block. We still face a bug challenge of commissioning this power block, which will advance the ranking of the Russian nuclear power industry on the international market. Our designs will be used to construct new power blocks in many countries all over the world”.

The “Leader” civic meeting – a public organization uniting the managers of the major business units – has been the prime sponsor of this event for several years.

The Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located on the bank of the Don River in 42 km to the south of Voronezh. It is the Russia's first nuclear power plant with VVER reactors (water-to-water power reactors of case type with regular water under pressure). Each of five reactors of the station can be a main one – a prototype of serial power reactors: the power unit No. 1 with the VVER-210 reactor, the power unit No. 2 with the VVER-365 reactor, the No. 3, 4 power units with the VVER-440 reactors, the power unit No. 5 with the VVER-1000 reactor. The first power unit was launched in 1964, the second – in 1969, third – in 1971, fourth – 1972, fifth – 1979. There are three power units (power units No.1, 2 were stopped in 1984 and 1990 respectively) in work at the moment.

Since June 2007 Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC has been involved into the construction of the two new-generation Novovoronezh NPP power generation plants based on the NPP-2006 project as the owner and the developer. The construction is carried out in accord-ance with the operational program of the national nuclear corporation ROSATOM enacted by the Government of the Russian Federation in the Resolution No. 705 dated September 20, 2008, and is funded at the expense of Rosenergoatom and the asset contribution. VVER-1200 reactor units will operate at the new LM NPP blocks.

The VVER-1200 RU project complies with all Russian and international security standards. Its main differentiator is the improved security system that makes the project’s security parameters second to none.
