On May 19, 2011, the “Parliamentary Debates” game was held at Balakovo NPP within the framework of VII International Championship in intellectual games among nuclear branch and industry young workers.

Eight teams, representing 6 nuclear plants, – Balakovo, Beloyarsk, Kursk, Leningrad, Novovoronezh and Smolensk NPPs – took part in the Championship.

This project, which was a pilot one for the Russian NPPs, consisted of two stages. For two days before the game the representative of Rosenergoatom Concern Central Office Fedor Sharoyko had organized an educational seminar and practical classes on the technique of public performance and debates for the young atomists.

During the duels, the teams representing “Government” and “Opposition” were reasonably proving the necessity of acceptance or resisted the acceptance of the draft legislations on the following topics: “Introduction of Compulsory Military Service for Women”, “Permission of the Official Repurchase from the Army” and “Cancellation of the Native Automobile Industry Support”.

As the jury members and the participants themselves noted, the debates had been held excitingly and on a high level. The team of Novovoronezh NPP was recognized to be the winner, the representatives of Kursk and Smolensk NPPs were awarded diplomas of the game finalists.

“The game brought us a real pleasure”, Jury Chairman F. Sharoiko noted summarizing the results. “Compared with the first training day all the participants have noticeably grown up: the speech structure has improved, the young people are reposing on the stage more freely. Our branch is a leading one, and they are aimed at professional development. And for the result achievement and for the career promotion it is very important to be able to convince an interlocutor intelligently and reasonably, defend one’s position, lead a discussion”.

Igor Tarasenko, captain of the winner team, expressed the common opinion of the game players: ”We would like this branch of intellectual competition to develop further and further. We are thankful to Balakovo NPP for the wonderful organization of the events. Excellent, hospitable, benevolent atmosphere has been created, and it was very interesting for us to work and communicate”.
