The first power block’s turbine foundation has been embedded in concrete at the Leningrad NPP under construction

The third-stage works on high- and low-pressure cylinders’ skids concrete embedding at the Leningrad NPP power block No.1 construction site have been fully completed. The contracting company has embedded over 90 square meters under the five turbine plant core process equipment units.

“In late April we were happy to announce that the long-lasting process of turbine foundation concreting has come to the end”, said Anatoly Maximov, the lead engineer at the technical supervision department of the Leningrad NPP under construction. “The foundation under the turbine plant is a complex construction that can take and balance considerable loads during the high-speed turbine operation. That’s why we have split the process into several phases and have set strict requirements towards the quality of the concrete. The stable and flawless operation of both the turbine generator and the whole power block relies on how firm and trouble-proof the concrete is”.

Once the concrete reaches its design strengths, the service commission will verify whether the foundation meets the standards set. Afterwards, the construction works at the turbine’s machine hall of the power block No.1 can be deemed completed.
Having this step finalized also gives the NPP specialists an opportunity to upscale the activities on the turbine generator installation at the machine hall. The embedded parts under the railway for winding up turbine generator rotor have been installed and concreted.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each.
