On August 5 the engineer of a reactor shop of Smolensk nuclear power plant Evgeny Gunkov saved the sinking seven-year-old boy.

The child bathed in the place not intended for this purpose, and he was carried away approximately on 20-25 meters from the coast by the watercourse. Evgeny noticed the person in water and, without deliberating for even a second, started salvaging the drowning. He pulled out the grown weak boy, rendered him first aid, wrapped up in a warm jacket and gave to drink tea. By these time specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the ambulance and militia had driven up to the scene.

Now the injured child is absolutely healthy. He and his relatives are immensely grateful to the savior who appeared nearby at the difficult moment and, risking his own life, rushed to help, and after also competently rendered the first medical care.

Evgeny explains the act only with desire to help and doesn't consider himself a hero.

- In my place everyone would have  done the same. I know to render first aid correctly to the victim including in case of drowning, - Evgeny Gunkov explains, - all personnel of the Smolensk nuclear power plant is trained in acceptances of rendering the pre-medical help to the victim in case of accidents. Questions on knowledge of an order of first-aid treatment are included into "Programs" of instructing, the educational and training division trains. Also good sports preparation, skills of the diver and the swimmer helped.

From administration of the Smolensk nuclear power plant and Department of Internal Affairs around the city letters of acknowledgement, letters and valuable presents are handed over to Evgeniy Gunkov.

The Smolensk nuclear power plant is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". SAES annually issues in a country power supply system on the average about 20 billion kilowatts of hours of the electric power that constitutes about 13% of the energy developed in Rosenergoatom concern, and more than 80%, the Smolensk region made by the power entities.
