The emergency activities have been successfully trialed during the scheduled emergency response drill at the Beloyarsk NPP
On September 6, 2016, a planned emergency response drill (ERD) took place at the Beloyarsk NPP (an affiliate company of the Rosenergoatom Concern, located in the city of Zarechny, the Sverdlovsk Region) with the operative staff of the running power blocks and the mobile equipment being involved.
During the ERD, the participants have successfully run through all aspects of cooperation in case of a hypothetic emergency situation, in particular, personnel evacuation, removal of an obstruction caused by a hypothetic earthquake, etc. The activities related to maintaining the reactor safe was carried out based on the 4th power block’s analytical simulator.
Apart from the standard training purpose, this drill also aimed at verifying the Beloyarsk NPP’s personnel being prepared for the complex emergency response exercise, which is to be held on September 21-23rd, with the Rosenergoatom Crisis Center staff, the Nuclear power plant emergency response team, the Rosatom’s Emergency Center, the Defense Ministry’s troops, several departments of the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Response, the Federal Medical and Biological Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the city of Zarechny government and specialized institutions, taking part in the drill.
The Beloyarsk NPP emergency situations and fire safety commission, its operative personnel, rescue service, and specialized bodies have participated in the exercise.
Maintaining a stable emergency preparedness level is one of the key elements of safety at any nuclear power plant.
During the drill, all power blocks of the Beloyarsk NPP operated as usual, without any exercise-related interventions.
The Beloyarsk NPP has come into operation in April 1964. The first power blocks of the Beloyarsk NPP with thermal reactors AMB-100 and AMB-200 has been closed after the accumulated running time. The power block with a fast industrial capacity reactor BN-600 is still on. The power block with a fact reactor BN-800? is currently being prepared for coming into operation.
