According to its traditions, Desnogorsk met the bright holiday of the Victory Day with a succession of solemn events. In the days before the holiday, the atomists visited all the veterans’ places, handed them in presents and flowers.

On May 8, the veterans of the Great Patriotic War of Desnogorsk city were invited to Neitrino palace for the celebration dinner organized by Smolensk nuclear plant administration. The guest actors were performing for the veterans, the songs of the years of war were sounding, the veterans were dancing waltz. Warm words addressed to the winners sounded in the holiday congratulations of the Directors and the Heads of the plant subdivisions.

On May 9, a solemn meeting was held at the city Mound of Fame. Before it the members of Smolensk NPP youth organization had performed the action called St. George’s ribbon, and all the wishful received the symbol of the Great Glory.

Director of Smolensk NPP Andrey Petrov, representatives of Desnogorsk administration and city Council, military commissariat, the city veterans’ Council of the Great Patriotic War and Labor appealed to the veterans of the Great Patriotic War with the words of congratulations and deep gratefulness.

In the memory of the battles led on Smolensk land the sportsmen of the traditional field-and-track cross on the route Koski-Desnogorsk finished at the Mound of Fame. The meeting was accomplished by wraths’ and flowers’ laying to the graves of the dead warriors.

The celebration was continued at the city stage where a concert and festive fireworks were organized in the honor of the Victory Day.

More than 50 veterans of the Great Patriotic War live in Desnogorsk city. At the initiative of Smolensk NPP Director Andrey Petrov, the nuclear plant workers took patronage over each of them. During the year the veterans are rendered assistance in dwelling repair, taking to hospitals for medical examinations, purchasing medical instruments and drugs, etc. Smolensk power men-atomists undertook a lot of duties concerning the veterans.
