The System of Ecologic Management at Leningrad NPP will Undergo Supervisory Audit

From April 19 to 22, 2011 a scheduled supervisory audit of ecologic management system (EMS) will be held at Leningrad NPP. The Committee headed by a leading auditor, chief of the audit group of an independent body on management systems certification SSA OJSC DEKUES A. K. Dibrov, will inspect the EMS compliance with the national standard GOST R ISO 14001-2007.

The audit will include an analysis of EMA elements work, check of the existing documentation on EMS and auditing of LNPP subdivisions involved in EMS. Besides, the audit group will attend a number of LNPP working subdivisions and will interview the personnel for their knowledge of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC environmental policy fundamentals and the plans for its realization.

The main purpose of LNPP environmental policy is provision of such level of the nuclear plant safety, when the influence over the environment, personnel and the population will not exceed the set standards, and the risk of emergency situation is minimized. 

The key principal of LNPP environmental policy is environmental protection, realized by means of a number of factors, among them: implementation of the Russian Federation environmental legislation, conforming with the set standards of the environmental influence, environmental influence in the process of production activity prevention, involvement of all the employees into the enterprise environmental activity.

Leningrad NPP is a branch of Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the bank of the Gulf of Finland in Sosnovy Bor city, 80 km westward from Saint Petersburg. LNPP was the first in the country to operate RBMK-1000 reactors (graphite-uranium pressure-tube thermal reactors). The NPP operates 4 power units with electric capacity of 1000 MW each.
