The Smolensk NPP: the first Russian club on the Korean sword fencing is to be established in Desnogorsk
The nuclear city will be the first one in Russia to host an open International seminar on the Korean sword fencing Haidong Gumdo.
On May 5-9, 2016, Sang Hoon Han, the president of the European Association. The event was organized by the Smolensk NPP and the Desnogorsk city administration.
According to Viacheslav Sedunkov, the head of the Desnogorsk city administration, this innovative and young city in the Smolensk Region is a perfect place for new traditions. “We have a proven track record in football, basketball, swimming, judo. We are open to new types of sports, and we are now the pioneers in bringing a Korean martial art to Russia”, he noted.
The Smolensk nuclear experts also plan to open a club on the Korean sword fencing. “This martial art is suitable for people of all ages, is based on the main human values, promotes patriotism, esteem for the elderly, respect for law and labor, brings in courage, tolerance, and willpower, teaches to make correct decisions and do good for the society”, Alexander Dolmenko, one of the founders and the head of the Smolensk NPP “Vityaz” hand-to-hand fight club, stressed.
The Smolensk NPP satellite town is the first place the Korean martial artist has visited in Russian. “I hope that we can make our plans come true jointly with the Russian colleagues. Desnogorsk will be the first place to promote the Haidong Gumdo philosophy”, said Mr. Han. “As of now, this martial art is popular among people of all ages in over 50 countries”.
The Smolensk nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The SNPP annually issues on the average about 20 billion kilowatts hours of the electric power into country power supply system, that constitutes about 13% of the energy, developed in «Rosenergoatom Concern», and more than 80% of the Smolensk region energy, developed by the power entities.
