The Smolensk NPP: the Desnogorsk and Chausy (Belarus) administration representatives have entered into the cultural cooperation and trade agreement

Viacheslav Sedunkov, the head of local administration for the city of Desnogorsk, and Sergey Drozdovskiy, the head of the Chausy district executive committee, have entered into the cultural cooperation and trade agreement during the visit the Belarusian delegation paid to the Smolensk nuclear city on April 4, 2016.

The document reflects the main aspects of collaboration: developing trade and economic relations, sharing artistic and sporting events.

During the meeting, the Chausy district representatives have also had a field trip to the Smolensk NPP where they could review the electrical power production technological process, try out the main control room simulator at the training center, and visit the interactive NPP’s information center museum.

“We were happy to learn how safe and reliable the Smolensk NPP is. I can say for sure that nuclear power industry is the future for Belarus”, said Sergey Drozdovskiy, the head of the Chausy district executive committee.

“I was highly impressed by how potent the Smolensk NPP is. Obviously, it’s a strategically important facility, which is extremely important for the Russian economy”, Tatyana Radivilina, the head of one of the Chausy district executive committee departments, noted. "The people in Belarus look forward to the Belarusian nuclear power plant being completed. The peaceful atom is what our well-being and energy security relies on”.

According to Viacheslav Sedunkov, the head of local administration for the city of Desnogorsk, who has recently become a director of the “Association of the territories housing nuclear power plants”, the authorities of the Belarusian twin town were especially interested to learn what to expect from the nuclear power generation industry in the country, how safe it is and what are the advantages of housing nuclear power facilities.

The business and cultural collaboration between Desnogorsk and Chausy has been in place for over 7 years, with strong ties between the two regions. The teams organize joint sporting and artistic events, Belarusian products are on sale in Desnogorsk, while Chausy promotes Desnogorsk products in their retail industry.

This year the two regions plan to set up joint tourist trails so that the families from Desnogorsk can familiarize themselves with the neighboring country’s cultural heritage and then welcome their friends at homes.

The Smolensk nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The SNPP annually issues on the average about 20 billion kilowatts hours of the electric power into country power supply system, that constitutes about 13% of the energy, developed in «Rosenergoatom Concern», and more than 80% of the Smolensk region energy, developed by the power entities.
