The Rostov NPP: the transformers’ outdoor installation oil cooler has been handed over for installation at the power block No.4 under construction

The transformers’ outdoor installation oil cooler has been handed over for installation at the Rostov NPP’s 4th power block under construction. In particular, the unit transformers were placed to convert the electric power generated by the turbine up to 500 kilowatt and to transfer it to the National grid of the country. The oil coolers are designed to cool those oil power transformers.

In addition to that, the power block under construction is getting ready to deliver the auxiliary electric equipment of the reserve diesel power plant (RDPP) for pre-commissioning. According to Alexey Fedotov, the deputy director of capital construction at the Rostov NPP, the RDPP units will shortly receive the voltage in order to verify that the equipment installed has been ready for operation. “Before the power block is launched, the RDPP will also participate in the “hot” reactor break-in planned for spring 2017”, he stressed.

The main goal of the RDPP is to support the operations of the power block’s security systems in case the main electric supply sources break down.

The power block No. 4 is planned to be launched in 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
