The Rostov NPP: the refueling machine is being prepared for commissioning and start-up at the 4th power block under construction

During the briefing on the 4th power block construction, the construction engineers were assigned a task of completing the refueling machine electrical fitting and transferring it to commissioning and start-up.

Besides, the last two accumulators of the emergency core cooling system are to be assembled and the ropes of the reactor compartment’s containment pre-tensioning system are to be tightened in August. At the moment, 26 out of 132 ropes have already been installed in the containment.


In October, the setup people are planning to start individual trials on the installed equipment, moving forward to the spill over an open reactor at the end of the year, which is one of the most important technological pre-launch operations. Apart from the assembly and the adjustment activities, the briefing also focused on equipment delivery and job safety aspects.

The 4th power block is scheduled to be launched in 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
