The Rostov NPP: the reactor unit’s security systems pipelines have almost been installed at the 4th power block under construction

The installation team working on the Rostov NPP’s 4th power block under construction have almost completed welding the pipeline joints connecting the pressure equalizer and the emergency core cooling system’s accumulators with the reactor. These works are conducted as a part of activities preparing for the spill over an open reactor.

“All first-circuit security system equipment has already been bound with industrial pipelines. One joint at the fourth tank of the emergency core cooling system is now being processed. We need one day to finalize the heat installation activities at the reactor unit’s first circuit security system pipelines. Our welders have large experience working at nuclear power facilities and are certified to carry out such works”, Anatoliy Samoylenko, the senior foreman of ZAO Sezam, commented on the progress.

The Customer – The Rostov NPP’s capital construction department – has elaborated a production system project (a construction plan) for Rosatom to optimize the “spill” preparation schedule without compromising the quality. Aleksey Fedotov, the capital construction director, explained it in the following way:

“When working on the construction plan to optimize the spill preparation schedule, we drafted a Primavera graph outlining daily plans. This schedule also covers the equipment supply, the project documentation adjustment, and, obviously, the detailed work breakdown structure for the installation companies involved into the process”, Aleksey Fedotov said.
The spill operations are scheduled for this December.

The power block No. 4 is planned to be launched in 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
