The Rostov NPP: the pressure equalizer pipes have been 100% installed at the 4th power block

These works have been completed as a preparatory stage for the technological systems spill over an open reactor, which is planned for late 2016 in accordance with the power block’s construction schedule.

During the spill phase, the installed pipelines and the reactor unit’s equipment will be cleaned up using chemically demineralized water.

“The pressure equalizer is designed to establish and to maintain the necessary pressure in the first circuit when the reactor unit is launched and the temperature conditions change”, Aleksey Fedotov, the capital construction director of the Rostov NPP, said. “Generally, the spill program starts with the pressure equalizer”.

“Starting the spill marks the start of preparing the power block for physical launch”, Sergey Olontsev, the senior vice president of ASE Group Russian projects management, stressed. “We are now at the stage when construction and assembly activities come to an end and the equipment commissioning and start-up works begin”.

At the moment, the team is working on commissioning and starting up the refueling machine and the motor-driven valves’ and electric motors’ scrolling. The reserve diesel power plant’s unit is being prepared for commissioning assignment. The last accumulator of the emergency core cooling system, which is a key element of the NPP’s security system, has been installed at the reactor hall.

In October, the servicemen are planning to start individual test connections of the equipment installed.

The power block No. 4 is planned to be launched in 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
