The Rostov NPP: the pre-commissioning of the nuclear reactor fuel loading machine has started at the power block ?4 under construction
August 26, 2016 the specialists of the Rostov NPP has started the pre-commissioning of the nuclear reactor fuel loading machine. The machine is designed for completing transportation and technological tasks, connected with reloading nuclear fuel from the solid-phase core of the reactor plant.
The mechanism is able to perform operations on transporting fuel assemblies, mass above 700 kg, with millimeter precision. The loading machine is produced by JS «OKBM Afrikantov» (Experimental Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau belonging to the «Rosatom» - «Atomenergomash» division).
«The pre-commissioning activities, during which the operating functions of the machine are adjusted, are going to take a month», - explained the Deputy Director of the capital construction at the Rostov NPP Alexey Fedotov.
Moreover, it is also scheduled to start assembling the two final hydraulic reservoirs for the emergency cooling system at the solid-phase core in the near future. The adjusters are ready to launch individual testing of the installed equipment in October.
«All the activities are held within preparing the power block to one of the most important pre-commissioning technological operations - testing the assembled lines when the reactor is on. According to the schedule, the operation is taking place at the end of the year, – mentioned the Director of construction at the Rostov NPP Alexey Kononenko. – In fact, this kind of testing is the main step before the power block is first critically».
The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
