The Rostov NPP: the auxiliary electric equipment of the reserve diesel power plant has been transferred to commissioning and start-up at the 4th power block under construction

The installation team working at the Rostov NPP’s 4th power block under construction has transferred the auxiliary electric equipment of the reserve diesel power plant (RDPP) to commissioning and start-up.

According to Alexey Fedotov, the capital construction director of the Rostov NPP, shortly the three units of the RDPP will receive voltage to verify whether the equipment installed is ready for work.

“We have signed the certificate of transferring all RDPP units to commissioning and start-up. In particular, at this stage, we will check the emergency power supply channels that cover the electric technical equipment, the secondary systems, the measurement and automation equipment”, Mr. Fedotov stressed.

The main goal of the RDPP is to support the operation of the power block’s security systems in case the main sources of electric power supply fail. In the normal operational mode, the RDPP has to be on a permanent standby.

Prior to its launch, the RDPP will also undertake the reactor’s hot trial planned for spring 2017.

The power block No. 4 is planned to be launched in 2017.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
