The Rostov NPP: the Rostechnadzor has checked the No. 3 and 4 power blocks’ make-up water pump house construction

On March 22-25, 2016 the Don Interregional Territorial Administration on Nuclear and Radiation Safety Control commission has examined the work progress on the Rostov NPP power blocks No. 3 and 4 make-up water pump house (MWP-2) construction.

The Rostechnadzor has carried out a scheduled verification on how the power block No.4 and other capital facilities’ construction and assembly works are progressing.

In the context of the Tsimlyanskoe reservoir shallowing tendency, this unique pump house can fully cater for the reliable technical water supply at all four NPP power block. The water will be drawn from the historic Don river bed.
In parallel with the MWP-2 construction verification, the commission headed by the Deputy head of the Don Interregional Territorial Administration on Nuclear and Radiation Safety Control Vladimir Belov has also verified other power block No.4 capital construction facilities.


It is important to note that the construction of the power block No.4, planned to launch in 2017, is now at its peak, with the works progressing on all facilities. The major circulation line is being welded at the reactor department. The requirements towards the deliverables are extremely strict, with step-by-step visual, metrical, radiographic, capillary, and ultrasonic verifications of all operations. The power block turbine is being installed at the turbine hall. The transformers’ exposed installation foundation is nearing its completion.

At the end of the verification, the deputy director of capital construction at the Rostov NPP Alexander Fedotov has noted that the supervisory authority had covered all aspects of the pump house construction, starting with the construction activities set-up and equipment installation up to the activities on the facilities’ physical protection.

The Rostechnadzor has another visit to the Rostov NPP planned for Q3 2016.

The Rostov NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based at the Tsymlianskoe reservoir shore 13.5 km away from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates VVER-1000 reactors with the installed capacity of 1000 megawatts. The power block No.1 commenced commercial operations in 2001, with the second and the third power blocks to follow in 2010 and on September 17, 2015, respectively. The power block No. 4 is currently under construction.
