The Rostov NPP: meeting on emergency preparedness and radiation protection of operating nuclear power plants of Russia.

In the Information Centre of the Rostov NPP there was held a meeting on emergency preparedness and protection against radiation of operating nuclear power plants of Russia. The representatives of such companies as the “Rosatom” State Corporation, the “Rosenergoatom Concern” OJSC, design organizations, FMBA of Russia and others took part in it.

Opening the meeting the Director of the Emergency Preparedness and Protection against Radiation Department of the “Rosenergoatom”Concern Vladimir Khlebtsevich noted that the last year was not easy for nuclear power engineering. All the Russian nuclear power plants have subjected to an unscheduled revision after the accident at the “Fukushima” NPP and despite of the high reliability of Russian nuclear power plants additional preventive measures on emergency preparedness have been worked out and taken.

Such annual final meetings are being held since 2003. They are held at various places towards attracting as much as possible specialists of relevant services of nuclear power plants. This year the meeting was held at the Rostov NPP.

Nowadays the nuclear plant has a shelter for fire engineering, which means that there is something to share with workmates of other nuclear NPPs. The off-nominal rescue groups of the Rostov along with the Balakovo NPP have passed accreditation and received certificates to conduct emergency response works.

In general the revisions of rapid response team services of the operating NPPs have shown their readiness to carry out tasks on localization and liquidation of emergency situations.

This year is the 80th anniversary of the country civil defense and the 25th anniversary of the ‘Rosenergoatom” Concern group on emergency assistance to nuclear power plants.

The Rostov NPP is a branch of the “Rosenergoatom Concern” OJSC. The enterprise is situated on the bank of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir at 13,5 km from Volgodonsk. The NPP operates two power units with VVER-1000 reactors with the capacity of 1000 MW. The power unit No.1 was commissioned in 2001 and the power unit No.2 – in December 2010.
