The Leningrad NPP: the trials have acknowledged that the cooling line generator stator’s pipes are passable

The process of post-installation ablution of the cooling line generator stator’s pipes from any possible mechanical impurities has been completed at the Leningrad NPP’s 1st power block turbine building.

Andrey Timakov, the deputy head of the turbine hall at the Leningrad NPP under construction, said: “The post-installation ablution of the low-pressure pipes at the cooling line generator stator has been finalized, and all pipelines have been announced passable. The distillate coming from the circuits washed is 97.5% more transparent than the input water (with the standard level being 95%)”.

According to Artiom Shepitko, the lead engineer of the turbine hall at the Leningrad NPP under construction, this critical operation was preceded by a number of works: all technological equipment of the system, such as electric pumps, heat exchangers, filters, water tanks, coolers, has been installed, the isolation valve has been trialed, the pumping units have been rotated, the temporary elements, the indicators, and the system pressure gauges have been installed.

The ablution works were subdivided into two stages. First of all, the system was ablated in four circuits using the coffers apart from the main equipment. The final ablution was carried out via the heat exchangers, the ion exchange filters, and the magnetic filters. The distillate temperature was kept within +70C. In accordance with the ablution program, the filters were purified and the water was changed after each stage.

The ablution works were accompanied by measurements and control over the pump bearing temperature, the pressure, and the level of distillate in the water chambers.

“At the moment, we are working on the individual test of the equipment already installed and the technological systems’ ablution. During the next stage, this equipment and the systems will be transferred to the field engineers for the full-scale pre-commissioning activities”, Anatoliy Gnevashev, the head of the turbine hall at the Leningrad NPP under construction.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
