The Leningrad NPP: the reactor power adjustment equipment has been installed at the 1st power block under construction

The last lifting apparatus has been fully assembled at the Leningrad NPP’s 1st power block under construction: the contracting company’s specialists have installed it at the +26.00 point at the upper unit’s inspection shaft and adjusted the electric part. This equipment is designed for transport and technological operations with the components of the control and protection system actuating units.

“Ourselves and the centralized maintenance department are monitoring the work progress and quality on a constant basis. The control and protection system actuating units’ dismantling apparatus will work with the loads up to 1 tons; however, its importance is hard to overestimate, since it is going to move the equipment regulating the reactor’s capacity”, Vitaliy Shutikov, the head of the reactor workshop of the Leningrad NPP under construction, said. He also stressed that this device will help to avoid additional radiation burden on the staff during the power block’s maintenance.

Another point of the device’s operation is right next to the reactor’s shaft where it can be used under overloads and other equipment revision. For those purposes, the equipment can be moved around using a polar crane.

According to Vladimir Shtatskiy, the Leningrad NPP’s centralized maintenance department, the whole bunch of works related to wiring and pre-commissioning activities for the control and protection system actuating units’ dismantling is to be completed in September.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. The replacement capabilities of the nuclear power plant have been constructed in accordance with the NPP-2006 project since 2008: two VVER-1200 power blocks are under construction. The project customer is the Rosenergoatom Concernl with ATOMPROJECT being the general designer and the TITAN-2 CONCERN acting as the general contractor.
