The Leningrad NPP: the Rosenergoatom and the Electricite de France inspection services have exchanged their experiences in labor protection

As a part of the cooperation program between the Rosenergoatom Concern and the French Electricite de France company, a meeting took place at the Leningrad NPP aimed at discussing the aspects of labor protection during the new power blocks’ construction and launch. Besides, the participants have discussed the results of the 2015-2016 inspection campaigns, exchanged their opinions on the innovative approaches and the ways to further improve their operations.

“We have shared our experiences in multiple aspects, including but not limited to the ways the inspection and control activities are set up at our companies. Our approaches are almost the same; however, each party has its own unique points of view. Communication helps us get a better picture of what is going on at our sites”, said Nikolay Sorokin, the deputy CEO and the general inspector of the Rosenergoatom Concern. He has also noted that both inspection services have already learned a lot from each other in terms of fostering and maintaining labor protection along with the technical and operational security. “We use each other’s knowledge and achievements, which is mutually beneficial”, Nikolay Mikhailovich stressed.

“The world of nuclear power has to be impeccable. It is quite easy to avoid any possible mistakes when constructing or running an NPP – one needs to see what our partners do, listen to their opinions, learn about their ideas and best practices and use those if necessary. We are interested in developing our fruitful cooperation with the Rosenergoatom Concern further on. It makes both the Russian and the French nuclear power plants much more secure”, Mr. Francois de Lastic, the EDF general inspector on nuclear and radiation security, summarized.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 80 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each.

The substitution capabilities for the existing nuclear power plant have been in construction since 2008. Two VVER-1200 power blocks are being constructed in accordance with the NPP-2006 project.

Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
