The Leningrad NPP: a regional casting for the international Nuckids project took place in Saint Petersburg

Six young talents, kids of the Leningrad NPP employees, have taken part in the Nuckids musical casting.

The Nuclear Kids (Nuckids) musical is an international children’s project organized by Rosatom that unites gifted kids of the Russian atomic industry specialists and the Rosatom’s foreign partners working together on an unforgettable play.

According to the sponsors, this project aims at fostering social connections among the kids of the atomic power industry employees, their creative development, as well as to promote nuclear energy to the young generation.

The project is being operated by the Nuclear industry information center, which hosted the regional castings in Saint Petersburg.

“I really enjoy the information center environment: it’s all so bright and colorful. I even measured radiation inside me – turned out to be at a low level”, said 12-years-old Alevtina Pianischuk. “I do athletic ballroom dances and I like singing – mostly at home while I’m on my own. That’s my first casting, and I’ve been longing to take part in something like this. I believe I can cope with anything they ask me to do”.

The casting is pretty complex: a kid needs to demonstrate one’s talents in many fields, such as singing, dancing, and acting. The cameras staring at young actors make it even harder to concentrate.

Sonya Afanasyeva, 10 years: “I took part in this casting when I was 8 years old, and last time I wasn’t so anxious. Probably I didn’t realize how serious it is and how it can affect my future. I sang a song, danced the cha-cha-cha, spoke about my favorite “Harry Potter” movie, and improvised to the music. I like working out, listening to the music, and talking to other people. I’ll be happy if I make it to the final”.

Masha Neizvestnykh, 11 years: “I’m from Tomsk, currently living in Sosnovy Bor, while my daddy is working at the Leningrad NPP construction. I study at a music school, choral department. I was anxious a bit, but I already have experience being on a stage with a choir. The project will hopefully give me new experience, new knowledge, and basically a chance to try myself out”.

Danila Sizov, 15 years: “I’ve prepared to read out the Famusov’s monolog from the “Woe from wit”. I hope that the project will give me an opportunity to demonstrate my acting talents. I like being on stage, and I’m pretty familiar with exhausting rehearsals before the performance, the spirit of the team work, team building. I head my school team at the wits & humor competition, and I’m also a candidate to the school governance”.

Artiom Triokhglazov, 12 years: “I enjoy playing classic guitar; however, I got interested in a modern project, too. I’ll be glad to make it to the final and not afraid to spend half of my summer getting ready for a musical”.

Varya Rodnova, the “project veteran”, has taken part in the Nuckids musical twice and is competing for her part in the play for the third time. Pursuant to the rules set, she still doesn’t have any preferences and has to go through the casting just like all other kids do. This involvement always comes with excitement and new emotions.

“I want to meet other kids and to feel the atmosphere I have enjoyed for the 6 weeks of being involved in the project. I look forward to a chance of having a part in the play, going over the sleepless nights, trainings, dances, and music”, said Varya.
Meanwhile, Varya’s secret of successful acting sounds as follows: “One needs to be persistent, strive to one’s part regardless of whether it’s a lead role or not, and, if you manage to land a lead role, do your best – only the greatest one can be so lucky”.

The kids have managed to overcome their anxieties and complete the competition. The results will only be presented late May, with the whole project staging taking around three weeks of July. Afterwards, the young talents will have road tours across the world.
