The Kolskaya NPP - in the top three power plants in Russia

The Kolskaya Nuclear Power Plant is among the best NPPs in Russia according to results of industrial competition between nuclear power plants of the Concern "Rosenergoatom" 2014. The enterprise achieved such good results for the last time in 2010.

The Director of the Kolskaya NPP Vasily Omelchuk congratulated the staff with a well-deserved prize, noted the importance of the event and "bronze" award: "2014 was the best for us. The station worked well. The third place was for us worthy of praise and appreciation. Every year we improve our work and strive together to achieve a higher place in competition among Best NPPs in Russia".

The tender committee under the chairmanship of the General Director of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom" Yevgeny Romanov evaluates the safety, stability and efficiency of ten nuclear power plants in Russia, situation with occupational safety and health, state of radiation and fire safety, efficiency of maintenance and repair of nuclear power plants.

The Commission appreciated the Kolskaya NPP for getting the Rostekhnadzor license on operating of power unit ?4 in the extended period of 25 years. Terms of blocks’ planned repairs continue to decline: the station reached the figure of 10.5 days in 2014. Development of an investment project on extending life of the power unit ?1 up to 60 years carried out. It has been decided that it will be rational to re-extend the life of the power unit ?1.

The successful conduct of  several activities in 2014 was noted, such as special tactical exercises "Atom-2014" and integrated emergency response exercise with a group of emergency assistance to nuclear power plants. The visit of permanent foreign representatives from the international organizations in Vienna, who praised the work of the Kolskaya nuclear power plant. Good results were shown during the inspection by the WAO NPP Moscow Centre. As part of the mission OSART* IAEA experts** reaffirmed the commitment of the Kolskaya NPP to process of continuous improvement of operational safety and reliability.

Vasily Omelchuk called the staff for coordinated work during this year for making another step forward and thanked them for their work.

* The mission OSART (Operational Safety Review Team) is an independent assessment of the operational safety at nuclear power plants. Mission is carried out by experts in the field of nuclear energy of IAEA member countries. The Kolskaya NPP held the IAEA OSART mission in November 2014.

The Kolskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in 200 km to the South from Murmansk on the shore of the Lake Imandra. It develops about 60% of the electric power in Murmansk region. There are 4 power units in operation with VVER reactors of 440 MW capacity each. The Kolskaya nuclear power plant is the supplier of the electric power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
