The Kola NPP: utilities sector of Polar Dawns runs smoothly and is a break-even operation - V. Omelchuk

On November 19 the Director of the Kola NPP Vasily Omelchuk made a presentation at the Conference of the Murmansk employers' associations of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation *. The performance was dedicated to the topic of corporate social responsibility of the enterprise. The Kola NPP is one of the enterprises in the region, which supports the investment attractiveness of the Murmansk region, as it is able to provide electricity to any power-consuming industries.

"We are not only constantly improving production efficiency, but traditionally we remain the main enterprise, - said V. Omelchuk. - It imposes on us a special social responsibility in ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants and the functioning of satellite city station".

Guide seeks to provide a high level of social protection for workers, that they would be satisfied with the working conditions at the plant and life in the city. One important step in this direction was the shift in the control loop of the Concern "Rosenergoatom" utilities sector in Polar Dawns.

"Since 2012, we have taken the problem of communal security in the municipality, which has yielded positive results, - shared with the audience V. Omelchuk. - Utilities run smoothly and gradually comes to break-even operation, which is a great result of our work to ensure a comfortable living and working conditions of our employees and the citizens".

The nuclear power plant is actively involved in the development of infrastructure in Polar Dawns. In the past year, which has become an anniversary for the Kola NPP, thanks to the financial support of nuclear workers in the satellite town, new urban facilities such as Heroes Square, pilots, kids park, and many others, were commissioned.

"The Kola NPP is involved in joint projects with institutions of the city and region. We have a program of private charity - said Vasily Omelchuk. - Especially important for us was the execution of the agreement, signed by the head of the "Rosatom Corporation" and the governor of the Murmansk region. With this agreement works on the repair, improvement and modernization of the urban economy are being actively done in the municipality".

According to the director of the station, all of the programs, that concern the support of the Kola NPP staff, in one way or another, are distributed over the city. This allows to come to an qualitative increase not only at the level of the NPP operation effectiveness in the Arctic, but also the quality of life in Polar Zori.

At the conclusion of his report Vasily Omelchuk opined, that the Kola NPP as socially important enterprise can be an example for other companies in the region.

* The Conference was organized by the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of the Murmansk region beyond the Xth International Specialized Exhibition «SevTec'14». The Kola NPP is a permanent participant of exhibitions and annually supports initiatives to improve the investment attractiveness of the Murmansk region.

The Kolskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in 200 km to the South from Murmansk on the shore of the Lake Imandra. It develops about 60% of the electric power of Murmansk region. There are 4 power units in operation with reactors of type VVER 440 MW each. The Kolskaya nuclear power plant is the supplier of the electric power for Murmansk region and Karelia.
