The Kalinin NPP: the construction activities at the first facility of the upcoming biggest Data center in Russia are completed

According to the field headquarters, the construction activities at the Data processing and storage center’s checkpoint have been completed.

Valeriy Zaulochnov, the chief engineer of the Kalinin NPP capital construction department, has confirmed that the construction on all facilities sticks to the plan, the first static tower crane has been installed, and the basement of the administrative building along with the foundations of the two data center buildings have been completed. Besides, he has noted that the whole team has strictly adhered to the safety requirements at the construction site, especially when working at heights.

Mikhail Kanyshev, the Kalinin NPP director, has also praised the progress in the construction and installation activities: “It has been almost four months since the first cubic meter of concrete was laid down, and now the construction activities are moving forward extensively. Over four out of 17 thousand cubic meters of cast reinforced concrete have been installed”.

During the headquarters’ meeting, the participants have outlined the main tasks for the next couple of month, those being: speeding the construction up, starting the construction of an underground cable line of 110 kilowatts with its total length being 1.8 km and a 110/10 kilowatts substation, forming the order for the main electric technical equipment for the 1110/10 Data center and the 330/110 East substations.

The country’s largest Data center will be operated by Rostelecom. Pursuant to the agreement with the Rosenergoatom Concern, the operator will lease the Data center building with the total capacity of up to 4000 boxes for 30 years. One of the things the data center’s resources will be used for is to process and to store the critical governmental information system.
The representatives of the Kalinin NPP, the project organization, and CHD-Engineering as the general contractor took part in the meeting.

The Data center is designed to process, store, and disseminate information.

According to the project, the 40-megwatt Data center will be the major one in Russia housing up to 4 thousand IT boxes.
The fact that the Data center is located closely to the Kalinin NPP is due to the fact that it should have a reliable independent power source.

The CHD-Engineering company acts as a general contractor for Data center construction. The first order is to be delivered in 2017.
