The Kalinin NPP: a spokesperson of the Egyptian House of Representatives has familiarized himself with the nuclear production technology

“We are looking to build a nuclear power plant in Egypt. That’s the dream we pursue”, said El-Sueydi Talaat, the head of the power generation and environment protection committee in Egypt, said during his visit to Udomlya. He mentioned that this visit was a great opportunity to get acquainted with the contemporary Russian nuclear power technologies taking the Kalinin nuclear power plant as a sample.

On July 14, 2016, a delegation of the Arab Republic of Egypt has paid a visit to the Kalinin NPP. The team was represented by Abdel Al Ali, a spokesman for the House of Representatives, Saad El Din Ahmed, the secretary-general of the House of Representatives, Elbadri Mohamed, the Egyptian Ambassador to Russia, as well as representatives of the Egyptian committees, the parliament, the embassy, and the media.

The Rosatom Corporation international relations block director Nikolay Spasskiy, along with the representatives of the Russian State Duma, Rosatom Overseas Inc., the Rosenergoatom Concern, and the Kalinin NPP hosted the meeting.
On behalf of Rosatom, Nikolay Spasskiy has welcomed the guests: “We are proud to be your hosts at a Russian NPP. We do understand how important this visit it, and we realize it’s of symbolic and political value for both sides”.

Mikhail Kanyshev, the Kalinin NPP director, gave a comprehensive review of how the nuclear power station operates, the contemporary technologies and the innovative solutions that were implemented at the power blocks’ construction and launch.

In particular, he elaborated on the new automatic process control system, the usage of the alternative construction fuel, training the NPP staff, and the environment protection measures. The NPP director also focused on the ways to keep the NPP safe, equipping each power block with an independent power supply source as a part of the Fukushima measures.

During the visit to the Kalinin NPP, the guests have also had a technical tour around the station’s production area, the 4th power block’s machinery hall and the block control point, the training center. Besides, the guests could relax at the Culture and Art Center “The Chayka Dacha” located at the bank of the Kalinin NPP cooling lake.

The guests have expressed their gratitude to the Kalinin NPP team for the unique opportunity to visit the station and to learn about the way it operates.

In November 2015, Russia and Egypt signed an intergovernmental agreement in Cairo to foster cooperation in the first Egyptian NPP construction and operation based on the Russian technologies.

The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
