The Kalinin NPP is ready for operation during the fall and winter season
As a result of the Rosenergoatom Concern commission’s verification held on October 3-7, 2016, the Kalinin NPP was recommended to receive a production availability certificate for the fall and winter season. The commission was headed by Alexander Korniushkin, the chief technologist of the Safety and production control department of the Rosenergoatom Concern.
The operations during the fall and winter seasons are constantly being monitored by the Government of the Russian Federation because those operations are critical for reliable and stable power supply for the population and the manufacturing industries.
The main areas verification where the staff preparedness, the way the territory is maintained, the engineering equipment, the railways, the motorways, and the vehicles, the logistics, the heat networks, the boiler plants, the electro-technical and hydro-technical equipment, the heating units of the 1st and the 2nd phase power blocks, the buildings, the fire safety measures, and many others.
The commission’s experts representing the Balakovo NPP, OAO SO Unified Power System of the Interregional Distribution Grid Companies Holding, the Main branch of the Russian Federation Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Response in the Tver region, and Rostechnadzor have reviewed the working places, the territories, the buildings, and the equipment maintenance zone of the Kalinin NPP. Besides, they have studied the documentation and have talked to the representatives of the Kalinin NPP’s workshops and departments.
As a result of the verification, the draft certificate of the Kalinin NPP’s preparedness for operation during the fall and winter season of 2016-2017 was submitted. It has to be approved by Mr. Petrov, the Rosenergoatom Concern CEO, and then forwarded to the Kalinin NPP.
The verification of the nuclear power plants’ preparedness for operation during the fall and winter season is held annually to ensure that the NPPs can run without any issues under the harsh weather conditions, as well as to comply with the load bearing schedule and the orders for electric and heat power supply.
The Kalininskaya nuclear power plant is a branch of the JSC "Concern Rosenergoatom". The station is located in the north of the Tver region in the Udomelskiy area. There are four power units with water-cooled power reactors (VVER-1000) with installed capacity of 1000 MW each in the structure of the Kalininskaya nuclear power station.
