The Japanese nuclear power experts have informed themselves of the way the Balakovo NPP operates

The delegation of experts representing the Japanese Nuclear production forum, the Electric power information center’s R&D department, and the IHI Corporation nuclear power department has paid a visit to the Balakovo NPP.

The event was initiated by the Japanese guests who arrived at Balakovo right after the ATOMEXPO-2016 International Forum, where the Balakovo NPP was suggested as a next point during the conversation with Sergey Kirienko, the head of Rosatom.

Viktor Ignatov, the NPP’s director, has welcomed the guests by saying: “For us, it’s a huge responsibility to provide comprehensive information about the station on such a short notice. However, it’s also a big honor to host this delegation. I’m happy to see people representing the country that, to my mind, is second to none in terms of team work, bearing responsibility for the results, and keeping the quality as high as it’s actually possible”.

The Japanese delegation has visited the information and the training centers, the 4th power block’s main control unit and machinery hall, and the radioactive waste handling workshop. During the round table with the Balakovo specialists, the guests have discussed many important aspects of making NPPs even more secure and efficient, as well as fostering their resistance against severe natural and man-made disasters.

Summarizing the visit, Mr. Takuya Hattori, the head of the delegation and the senior advisor of the Nuclear production forum, has shared his impressions. He has noted how clean and neat the production area is, the fact that the output indicators are very high, and has praised the way the power plant works on expanding the power blocks’ life span, training staff, and job safety agitation.

“We need to work together. Nuclear power industry is extremely important for all of us”, the head of the Japanese delegation has stressed at the end of the visit.

The Balakovo NPP is an affiliate for the Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the left bank of the Saratov water reservoir, 10 kilometers to the north-east from the city of Balakovo, the Saratov Region. The NPP has four power block with modern VVER-1000 reactors (B-320 modification) boasting an electric capacity of 100 megawatts each. The first power block was launched operational in 1985, with the second, the third, and the fourth one being started in 1987, 1988, and 1993 respectively. The Balakovo NPP is one of the biggest and most contemporary power companies in Russia accounting for 25% of the electric power output in the Volga federal district, which caters to the population of the Volga region, the Central region, the Ural, and the Siberia.
