The Balakovo NPP: in 2015, over 4 million rubles were allocated for environment protection

The traditional public presentation of “The 2015 environmental safety report” took place at the Balakovo NPP information center, with the representatives of the environment protection organizations, the local public authorities’ deputy corps, the Public council under the auspices of the head of local administration, the Specialized Medical Center of the 156 Medical Unit management, and the most popular Balakovo mass media attending the meeting.

During the presentation, the spokespeople noted that over 1 million rubles were spent on the ecological monitoring of the Balakovo NPP ground and water ecosystems, with another 800 thousand rubles invested into the analytical control of the environmental impact sources.

The comprehensive multi-module official ecological document confirms that the Balakovo NPP operates safely and has never witnessed any cases of violating the environment protection laws during its operation. The industrial environmental control and the environment monitoring data obtained last year testify that the environmental conditions and the water condition in the area where the nuclear power plant is located are pretty favorable. The amount of emissions, chemical dumps, and waste are much lower than the limits set, with their proportion to the whole amounts in the Balakovo municipal districts are just 0.15%, 3.2%, and 0.16% respectively. The company also has an environment protection system in place, which complies with the international and the Russian ISO 14000 standards, according to the inspection audit conducted in 2015.

In 2015, the Balakovo NPP received lots of awards for its contribution to ecological safety, was named “A model company in terms of environment protection in the nuclear power industry”, and became the winner in the “Environmental compliance leader” nomination among the Russian power generation companies for the 8th time in a row.

“All the data provided in the report have been proven. Being an affiliate company of the Rosenergoatom concern, the Balakovo NPP bears full responsibility for everything we publish here”, Dmitry Shevchenko, the head of the NPP’s information management and public relations stressed when delivering the presentation.

Printed versions of the ecological compliance report have been recently sent to the Balakovo municipal district administration, the District Assembly, and the Balakovo City Council for further review. An e-copy of the document is available at the Balakovo NPP website.
