The Balakovo NPP has invested around 58 million rubles in environmental protection in 2015

The Balakovo NPP is the leading production enterprise in Balakovo in terms of environmental safety measures. For example, in 2015, the company invested 57.905 million rubles in environmental protection. This news were reported by Konstantin Chuprin, a leading specialist of the Balakovo NPP’s Information and Public relations department, during his report on the company’s environmental policy at the Public Chamber’s meeting on October 6, 2016.

The aspects of facilitating environmental protection in the Balakovo NPP’s area were one of the topics for discussion at the Balakovo municipal district administration.

“The station’s environmental policy is a part of the Rosatom Corporation’s and the Rosenergoatom Concern’s corporate policies. The IAEA oversees this direction constantly. Safety is an absolutely top priority for the NPP, and it’s far more important that electric power production. The company improves its environmental protection plan regularly based on the top-notch technologies available”, Mr. Chuprin said.


He also mentioned that the Balakovo NPP’s impact on the environment is not only within the standard limits but on a ridiculously low scale compared to them. The NPP’s operation fully complies with the legal standards on environmental protection. On an annual basis, the Balakovo NPP elaborates and implements a set of activities aimed at fostering ecological safety.
Meanwhile, the Public Chamber’s Chairman, Evgeniy Zapiatkin, noted that the Balakovo NPP employs seasoned professionals. “They do care both about the plant’s reputation and the ecological situation in the area. Year after year, I’m getting more and more convinced that our NPP operates safely”, he stressed.

The Balakovo NPP is an affiliate for the Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is located on the left bank of the Saratov water reservoir, 10 kilometers to the north-east from the city of Balakovo, the Saratov Region. The NPP has four power block with modern VVER-1000 reactors (B-320 modification) boasting an electric capacity of 100 megawatts each. The first power block was launched operational in 1985, with the second, the third, and the fourth one being started in 1987, 1988, and 1993 respectively. The Balakovo NPP is one of the biggest and most contemporary power companies in Russia accounting for 25% of the electric power output in the Volga federal district, which caters to the population of the Volga region, the Central region, the Ural, and the Siberia.
