Thanks to the effective repair campaign, the Leningrad NPP has delivered extra 750 million kilowatt-hours of electric power to the region

The Leningrad NPP has completed the 2016 repair campaign well ahead of schedule with just 254.15 days to spend on it. According to the balance set by the Russian Federal Anti-Monopoly Service, 277 days were allocated to fix the four operating power blocks of the Leningrad NPP. The Rosenergoatom Concern set its own performance targets of 272 as a pessimistic scenario and 259 as an optimistic one.

- We have cut our timelines by 22.85 days compared to the initial plan, which has enabled us to produce extra 750 million kilowatt-hours for the region, - Pavel Lavrentiev, the deputy chief repair engineer of the Leningrad NPP, noted.
This year, the repair activities have also included a considerable piece of work related to pipelines control. All in all, the routine inspection program was doubled, with the activities related to the turbine hall inspection being increased almost five times.

- We have verified all the joints and pipe inserts that made us concerned as a result of the additional analysis we have conducted after the incident at the 2nd power block that took place last December. This job was successfully completed, and even though it added up to the scope, the timelines for repairs were not affected, - Mr. Lavrentiev said.
The Leningrad NPP has always been second to none in terms of reactor assembly maintenance. The repair of the 2nd power block pre-supposed restoration of the life characteristics for the high power channel-type reactor and the job was completed timely with increased quality.

- Our successes in the restoration of the life characteristics are followed by the next stage in the Rosatom’s production system – constant personal improvements and enhancements in what we do. The life characteristics restoration now runs steadily. We still have room for improvement, and we make our way towards impeccable operations, - Mr. Lavrentiev added.

The Leningrad NPP is an affiliate company for Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC. The plant is based in the city of Sosnovy Bor, 40 km to the west from Saint Petersburg at the Gulf of Finland shore. The Leningrad NPP is the first Russian nuclear power plant having RBMK-1000 reactors (uranium-graphite channel-type thermal neutron reactors). The NPP exploits 4 power blocks with the electric capacity of 1000 megawatt each. Also, pursuant to the NPP-2006 project, 1,2 VVER-1200 power blocks included into The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM long-term plan are being constructed. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is the owner and developer of the project. Holding TITAN-2 is the primary contractor. ATOMPROEKT is the general designer.
